RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Six Felician University women's soccer student-athletes have been named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Fall 2018 All-Academic Team, the CACC announced on Tuesday.
In order to be named to the CACC All-Academic Team, recipients must have used a season of eligibility while participating in a CACC fall championship sport, be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, be a second-year student-athlete at their current school, and have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher at the end of the immediate preceding term.
Two Felician seniors – Giana DiTonto (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) (3.96 GPA, biology major) and Sami Lederle (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) (3.78, accounting) – were named to the CACC All-Academic Team for the third time, the maximum possible in one sport. They are two of 10 three-time honorees league-wide. DiTonto and Golden Falcon junior Joanne Arvanitakis (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) (3.97, accounting) are two of 11 student-athletes on the list to boast of a GPA of 3.90 or better.
Earning CACC All-Academic honors for the first time were Felician sophomores Vanessa Driskill (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) (3.79, accounting), Claudia Engels (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) (3.75, elementary education) and Brooke Garofalo (Ridgefield, N.J./Ridgefield Memorial) (3.56, biology).
Felician is coached by Thomas Notte of Long Valley. In 11 seasons, Notte has now placed 69 Golden Falcons on the CACC All-Academic Team. This year's six winners are the most from any Felician fall sport.
In all, 64 student-athletes from the CACC's 13 soccer-playing member schools were honored. This year's complete list for women's soccer can be viewed at http://www.caccathletics.org/sports/wsoc/2018-19/releases/1218Academic.
