LYNDHURST, N.J. – In a match bereft of scoring opportunities, Wilmington (Del.) University took advantage of two early chances close to the goal line and went on to a 2-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over host Felician University on Saturday evening at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Both Wildcat goals were notched by sophomore midfielder Jessica Unsihuay (Newark, Del./St. Georges Tech) in the first period. Each score was a one-touch opportunity set up by a teammate. Otherwise, the sides were rarely dangerous. The visitors completed the night with advantages of 12-6 in shots and 7-1 in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Kazenmayer (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) made four saves in defeat for the Golden Falcons (1-4, 1-2 CACC).
Unsihuay put Wilmington (2-4, 1-1) ahead with just over 10 ½ minutes gone by in the contest. Sophomore Krysta Memis (Lower Gwynedd, Pa./Wissahickon) send a low cross from the right side that found Unsihuay in front of the goal mouth for a tap in.
In the 32nd minute, it was junior Kelly Robbins (Browns Mills, N.J./Pemberton) that freed Unsihuay. Robbins sent a ball that traveled all the way to Unsihuay's right foot at the far post for an easy finish.
The Golden Falcons came out strong in the second half, getting off three shots in the first seven minutes, but the Wildcat defense was up for the challenge. Wilmington substituted liberally, keeping fresh legs on all three lines, and was able to fend off the Felician attack for the balance of the night.
Wilmington senior keeper Kate Tubo (Lockport, N.Y./Wilson Central) made one save in 84 minutes to earn the victory. Wildcat senior Rebecca Dolhansky (Blackwood, N.J./Triton Regional) topped all players with four shots, while senior Sami Lederle (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) took a team-high two for Felician.
The Golden Falcons travel to nearby Essex County to face Caldwell University on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Caldwell, N.J.
