RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Four recent high-school graduates – Angel Allen (Elizabeth, N.J./Thomas Jefferson Arts Academy), Briana Boyd (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley), Damia Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Joseph) and Jaylee Sanchez (Jersey City, N.J./Hudson Catholic) signed National Letters of Intent during the recently-concluded NCAA signing period to continue their basketball careers at Felician University, Felician head women's coach Steve Fagan announced today.
The quartet runs Felician's total of scholarship newcomers for the 2018-19 season to six. Earlier this month, Fagan announced the commitments of transfer students Taliyah Brisco (Queens, N.Y./Francis Lewis) and Shaelee Brown (Amarillo, Texas/Tascosa).
"We needed high-motor, high-energy players," said Fagan, entering his 11th season with Feilcian. "These young ladies will compete hard on both ends of the floor, and will do so with great character and toughness."
Allen, a 6-foot guard/forward, played for Elizabeth High School while attending Thomas Jefferson Arts Academy of Elizabeth. She was also a member of the AAU Lady Wolverines. Allen is undecided on a major course of study
"Angel offers the ability to play multiple positions," Fagan said. "She will bring athleticism to our forward rotation, and will look to score quickly in transition."
Boyd was a three-time all-Burlington County guard at Rancocas Valley Regional of Mount Holly. She also participated in outdoor track & field for the Red Devils. The 5-foot-7 Boyd played AAU basketball for Philly Triple Threat. She intends to enroll in the pre-medical program in Felician's biology department.
"Briana is an athletic guard who adds tenacity on defense," Fagan said. "She's displayed quickness on the perimeter and in transition."
Jordan, a 5-foot-11 power forward, earned Second Team all-league honors as a senior at St. Joseph High of Brooklyn, N.Y. Her most recent AAU squad is the Suffolk Lady Cougars. Jordan expects to study business administration.
"Damia is a versatile post player," Fagan said. "She can knock down the perimeter jump shot or attack in the open court, and also brings a strong defensive presence."
Sanchez is a 5-foot-6 swing player who captured honorable-mention all-league honors as a senior at Hudson Catholic of Jersey City. She intends to major in psychology.
"Jaylee is a combination guard with great handle in traffic," Fagan said. "She possesses three-point shooting range and is a hard-nosed defender."
Fagan also announced on Wednesday that recent high-school graduate Asia Rivera (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) has enrolled at Felician University and is expected to join the women's basketball team. Rivera is a combination guard.
Felician is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). Classes for traditional Felician undergraduate students begin today. The Golden Falcons are slated to tip off their 2018-19 playing season at the Regina Rivera Memorial Tournament, hosted by Dominican (N.Y.) College, on November 16-17 in Orangeburg, N.Y.
