RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University senior Steph Donah (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) and junior Nicole Spiegelberg (Blauvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee) have been named to the 2019 All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Second Team. The conference's award winners were voted on by its 14 head coaches and announced on Tuesday.
Both players earn all-conference honors for the second time. Donah was a Second-Team selection 2017. Spiegelberg earned First-Team accolades as a freshman that same year.
"Statistically, it's easy to see why Steph and Nicole have earned these honors," said third-year Felician head coach Alexis Durando, "but our coaching staff was even more impressed with their intangible qualities. They've both been tremendous leaders and gave our offense a big boost hitting third and fourth in our lineup. I'm really proud of them."
Donah, a 5-foot-9 center fielder, started all 45 games for Felician and had a .415 batting average, currently third in the CACC. Her 61 hits (third in CACC) include 10 doubles, six triples (T-first), and three home runs, and she scored 31 runs while driving in 33 (sixth). She tied a Golden Falcon record with a 16-game hitting streak and collected 14 outfield assists.
Donah is the all-time leader for the Golden Falcons in games played with 181. She is in the top five at Felician in several career offensive categories, including fourth with 172 hits. She is a 2015 graduate of Arthur L. Johnson High of Clark.
"Steph was a huge threat to opposing pitchers," Durando said. "She had the ability to leg out an infield hit and a ton of pop in her bat to drive in runs. Defensively, there were few balls out of Steph's range, and runners who tested her arm were often met with an out."
Spiegelberg, 5-foot-7, was voted at first base after qualifying as a designated player two years ago. In 45 starts this season, she batted .395 (fifth in CACC) with a .500 on-base percentage (third). She produced 11 doubles (seventh), seven home runs (fourth), 23 runs, and 39 RBI (fourth).
In just three seasons, Spiegelberg has assaulted the Felician record books. She is already tied for the career home run lead (29), second in RBI (109), tied for eighth in hits (141) and the all-time walks leader (63). She is a 2016 graduate of Tappan Zee High.
"We are thrilled with Nicole's initiative and ability to lead an otherwise young infield," Durando said. "But most of all, her bat is a force. Even though many opponents chose to pitch around her, she made the most of the strikes that were thrown to her."
Felician completed 2019 with a won-lost record of 15-30. The Golden Falcons finished in ninth place in the CACC with an 11-15 league mark, missing the conference playoffs by one game.
Felician has now seen eight student-athletes earn all-conference honors in the 2018-19 academic year.
