PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson Rams broke a scoreless tie mid-way through the second period and went on to a 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer victory over visiting Felician University on Saturday afternoon at Ravenhill Field.
Senior midfielder Jason Rocha (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) recorded two goals for Jefferson (4-2-1, 3-0-1 CACC), including the eventual game-winner with 22 minutes, 32 seconds left in regulation time.
Felician (0-8-1, 0-5) rarely tested Ram junior goalkeeper Kris Donaldson (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad/St. Mary's College), who was seeing his first action of the season. The Golden Falcons were out-shot, 20-8, for the day, and put only one shot on goal. Donaldson came up with the lone save to earn the shutout.
Felician junior keeper Joe Sartori (Wood-Ridge, N.J.) made five first-half stops as the sides entered halftime scoreless. The Jefferson offense was active early in period two, and broke though when Rahsaan Robe (Valley Stream, N.Y.) deflected the ball in close to Hunter Dyson (Broomall, Pa.), who quickly found Rocha for an open shot.
Jefferson sophomore Val Mokrejs (Elverson, Pa./Twin Valley) scored an unassisted goal with 13:00 to go, and Rocha secured the victory by being freed up with Sartori one-v.-one and winning with 5:07 showing on the game clock.
Sartori finished with nine saves.
Felician has been outscored, 25-7, in the second half this season, including 16-5 in conference matches.
Felician returns home to take on Post University on Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Lyndhurst, N.J.
