RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician University men's lacrosse team will host an exhibition game against the National Team of France on Friday, October 18, at 4 p.m. at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Third-year Felician head coach Brendan Bonacum was appointed to the same position for the French National Team in May. He set up Friday's contest as a centerpiece of the Golden Falcons' fall training season.
"While this game doesn't end our fall, it will serve as an excellent dress rehearsal for the spring," Bonacum said. "We expect to gain valuable experience against a pretty well-rounded team. It's a great opportunity for our players to test themselves in a different way."
The sides will play four 20-minute quarters with running time and will otherwise compete under NCAA rules. Admission is free.
"It's no secret that our program is looking to turn a corner, and this is a great chance for the Felician community to come see that first-hand," Bonacum said. "For more serious lacrosse fan, it's an opportunity to watch a national team on the rise. And let's be honest, this game gives our fans the opportunity to check out our new faces before the cold of February hits!"
Bonacum run the Golden Falcons on Friday. His France assistants, Travis Blau and Daniel Steigert, are expected to coach that side. When not helping with the French team, Blau is Bonacum's lead assistant at Felician and Steigert is the head coach of fellow Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference member Dominican (N.Y.) College.
But Bonacum will be sure to get a good look at the whole field both on Friday and two days later when Felician and France are part of a six-team series of hour-long games that the Golden Falcons will host in Mount Olive.
"After this weekend, we'll pare the French team down to the final squad that will compete at the 2020 Euro Championship in Poland. So it's a final tryout for them as well."
Felician begins its third intercollegiate season in program history by hosting Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday, February 22, 2020, at noon in Lyndhurst.
