Felician's McLean-Byrd Earns Two CACC Weekly Honors

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University freshman Jose McLean-Byrd (Bronx, N.Y./Mount Saint Michael Academy) has been selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Mar. 10, the CACC announced on Monday.

McLean-Byrd, a 5-foot-8, 200-pound faceoff man, went 14 for 21 on faceoffs and tied his own Felician record with 10 ground balls during the Golden Falcons' 15-3 loss at St. Thomas Aquinas College on Mar. 20. Felician is competing in its second season as a varsity intercollegiate program.

McLean-Byrd has played in all six games for the Golden Falcons this season. He is 76 for 145 (52.4 percent) in the faceoff circle and leads Felician with 40 ground balls. He also owns one goal. His 6.67 ground balls per game rank 23rd nationally in NCAA Division II.

McLean-Byrd is the second player in program history to capture each award. Teammate Ausar Wright (Pemberton, N.J./Ewing) was the Defensive Player of the Week two weeks ago. Anthony Major II was recognized as the Rookie of the Week on Apr. 23, 2018.

Also on Monday, senior baseball second baseman Danny Healey Jr. (Brookhaven, Pa./Monsignor Bonner), sophomore baseball pitcher Nick Nardulli (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) and senior softball outfielder Bella Bradian (Mount Royal, N.J./Kingsway Regional) were selected to the CACC Weekly Honor Rolls in their sports.

Felician (0-6, 0-0 CACC) is guided by second-year head coach Brendan Bonacum of Lyndhurst. McLean-Byrd and the Golden Falcons travel to Elkins, W. Va., for a non-conference contest on Saturday at noon against Davis & Elkins College.
