RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University men's golf student-athletes Gonzalo Maldonado Felices (Almeria, Spain/Stella Maris), a sophomore, and junior Adrian Mayorga (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) have been named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Fall 2019 All-Academic Team, the CACC announced on Wednesday. Both earn the honor for the first time in their careers.
To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must meet the following criteria: a) minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 at the end of the immediate preceding term; b) minimum of two semesters enrolled as full-time student at member institution; c) student-athlete must be second year student-athlete at member institution; and d) student-athlete must have been athletically eligible the season preceding the award and used a season of eligibility.
Maldonado Felices enjoyed one of the best freshman campaigns in Felician history in 2018-19. He recorded a scoring average of 77.71, fifth-best in the 14-year history of the program. This season, he is averaging 79.56 through nine rounds and finished 27th of 45 at the CACC Championship tournament. Maldonado Felices is a graduate of Colegio Stella Maris in Almeria, Spain. He carries a 3.90 GPA while majoring in marketing.
Mayorga is in his third year as a member of the golf team but his first as a tournament competitor. He recently set career bests for 18 and 36 holes – 102 and 205, respectively -- at the Eagles Invitational, hosted by Post University. He is a 2017 graduate of Albertus Magnus High School of Bardonia, N.Y., and holds a 3.59 GPA as a business administration major.
The pair represent the first two CACC All-Academic honorees for Felician during the 2019-20 academic year.
Conference-wide, Maldonado Felices and Mayorga were two of eight student-athletes to be honored in men's golf, representing five of the nine member schools that sponsor the sport.
