RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University women's cross-country student-athletes Valentina Gonzalez (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) and Kelly Murphy (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) have been named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Fall 2017 All-Academic Team, the CACC announced on Thursday. Both earn the honor for the first time in their careers.
In order to be named to the CACC All-Academic Team, recipients must have used a season of eligibility while participating in a CACC fall championship sport, be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, be a second-year student-athlete at their current school, and have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher at the end of the immediate preceding term.
Gonzalez, a sophomore co-captain, ran in all six races for the Felician this season. She posted a career-best 5,000-meter time of 22 minutes, 38 seconds, at the Jersey Blues Invitational on October 14, and finished 64th in the CACC Championship meet on October 22. Gonzalez is a 2016 graduate of Wood-Ridge High. She carries a 3.78 GPA as a communications major.
Murphy, a senior co-captain, is in her second year at Felician after transferring from Rowan College at Gloucester County. She also completed all six Golden Falcon races in 2017, with a season-best 5K of 23:49 at the Jersey Blues Invitational. She placed 75th at the CACC Championship. Murphy, a 2014 Cinnaminson High graduate, owns a 3.93 GPA while majoring in mathematics education.
Both Gonzalez and Murphy are also members of Felician's track & field team.
Felician has now has had five student-athletes earn Academic All-CACC honors this academic year.
