Women's Cross-Country Begins 2017 At Ramapo

FLEMINGTON, N.J. – The Felician University women's cross-country team began its 2017 season by participating in the Ramapo College Season Opener on Friday evening at Deer Path Park.

Sophomore transfer Jayne Burgoyne (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) topped the Felician contingent. Burgoyne completed 5,000 meters in 22 minutes, 21 seconds. She crossed the finish line 29th out of 83 entrants.

Burgoyne was the only Golden Falcon to finish in the top half of the field. Sophomore Valentina Gonzalez (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) was 55th with a time of 24:23. Senior Kelly Murphy (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) placed 70th in 26:35, and freshman Shahiana Odies (Vauxhall, N.J./Benedictine Academy) ended up in 77th place with a 29:05.

Felician did not receive a team score.

The host Roadrunners easily captured the meet's team championship, placing eight runners among the top 10 finishers. Ramapo's 18 points were better than the 51 of runner-up Springfield College. Seven schools fielded full teams.

Ramapo senior Paris Hughes was the individual winner with a time of 19:40.
