PHILADELPHIA – The Felician University women's cross-country team took its first of two 2016 trips to Belmont Plateau on Saturday afternoon, placing 10th out of 17 full teams at the Jack Saint Clair Memorial Championship, hosted by Philadelphia University.
Saturday's race, which had open entries, was run on a 6,000-meter course. Felician will return to Belmont on October 23 for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship race, which will be contested over 5,000 meters.
Senior Sabrina Roldan (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) led the Felician pack, crossing the finish line in 25 minutes, 17 seconds. She placed 16th overall out of 160 entrants, including eighth among collegiate runners.
Senior Kate Rohsler (Fredon, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) was the only other Golden Falcon to finish in the top half of the field. She ran a 27:01 and came in 49th.
Freshmen claimed the next two spots for Felician. Valentina Gonzalez (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) was the Golden Falcons' No. 3 runner, placing 98th in 30:17. She was followed by the 32:00 of Chantel Monegro (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth), who was 118th.
Junior Kelly Murphy (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) grabbed the final scoring slot for Felician, crossing the line 129th with a time of 32:52.
The Golden Falcons scored 252 points, 21 behind ninth-place Wesley College. Felician finished sixth out of seven CACC members in attendance.
The host and regionally-ranked Rams won the event with 43 points. Margaret Vido of the Philadelphia Runner Track Club was the individual champion in 21:57, and Post University freshman Kendall Fitzgerald was the top collegiate runner in 23:28.
