RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician College women's and men's cross-country teams will compete in the 2014 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship meet on Sunday, November 2. The event will be hosted by Philadelphia University at Belmont Plateau, inside Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. The women's 5,000-meter race is slated for 10 a.m., with the men's 8,000-meter competition scheduled for 11 a.m.
The Felician women and men will both be looking to meet or exceed their third-place results from 2013. The men's team has won nine CACC championships, while the women's squad seeks its first. Both teams are led by 13th-year head coach John Brennan.
The top 15 individual finishers in each race will be named All-CACC. Directions to Belmont Plateau are available at http://www.devilsathletics.com/information/directions/Campus_Venues (scroll down to final entry). The CACC also plans to offer free live streaming video in and around the finish line at http://tinyurl.com/p9opdag.
The Felician men have been led by sophomore Mike Secreti (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) and senior Keenan Huggins-Filozof (Farmingdale, N.J./Freehold Township). Secreti, the league's male co-Runner of the Week for September 22, has finished in the top 10 in every regular-season event this season. He seeks his first All-CACC recognition after a disappointing 19th-place finish a year ago. Huggins-Filozof was an all-league performer in 2011 and 2013.
The Golden Falcons will be limited to five entrants due to team injuries. Junior Aiden Lynch (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) has been a dependable No. 3 man, and freshman Fernando Gomez (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) has steadily improved in the No. 4 slot. Sophomore walk-on Connor Gillespie (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Hasbrouck Heights) rounds out the line-up.
Wilmington (Del.) University is the two-time defending CACC champion and is ranked No. 9 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region coaches' poll.
The Felician women enter the championship with a veteran squad. Senior and first-year collegiate competitor Kassie Topp (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) has emerged at the head of the team's pack. Sophomore Sabrina Roldan (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) made the all-CACC team in 2013 and is a threat to do so again, and senior Andrea Sarracino (Wood-Ridge, N.J./St. Mary) is dangerous in the No. 3 slot. The Golden Falcons' most experienced competitors, seniors Sylvia Bialy (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) and Lianne Rossi (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) round out the top five.
Also in the Felician line-up will be junior Michelle Camacho (Moonachie, N.J./Wood-Ridge) and sophomore Kate Rohsler (Fredon, N.J./Kittatinny Regional). Nyack College won the 2013 CACC title, but the host Rams are the only regionally-ranked CACC squad entering the race, sitting in the No. 4 spot
