Women's Cross-Country Is Fifth In Large Meet

KINGS PARK, N.Y. – Led by frontrunners Kassie Topp (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) and Sabrina Roldan (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge), the Felician College women's cross-country team finished fifth out of 29 schools at the St. Joseph's (N.Y.) College Invitational, held Saturday afternoon at Sunken Meadow State Park.

The race was by far the largest event in which the Golden Falcons have participated this season, hosting 230 female competitors and another 224 on the men's side. The Felician women scored 189 points, 14 behind fourth-place Hunter College and 20 better than New York Institute of Technology in sixth.

Topp, a senior and first-year varsity competitor, traversed the 5,000-meter course in 21 minutes, 51 seconds, and finished 18th. Not far behind was Roldan, who crossed the finish line in 22:02 and placed 22nd. Senior Andrea Sarracino (Wood-Ridge, N.J./St. Mary-Rutherford), Felician's usual No. 3 runner, was in that spot again, turning in a 23:15 for 46th place.

The next three Golden Falcons produced times within 10 seconds of each other. Senior Sylvia Bialy (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) was 64th overall in 23:59. Sophomore Kate Rohsler (Fredon, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) (67th, 24:08) edged out junior Michelle Camacho (Moonachie, N.J./Wood-Ridge) (69th, 24:09) for the final scoring position.

The host Golden Eagles won the team championship, edging runner-up Bloomfield College, 51-58. NYIT senior Gladys Kimutai was the individual winner. Her 19:43 was 51 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor.

The meet was Felician's last tune-up before the 2014 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship, to be hosted by Philadelphia University on Nov. 2 at Belmont Plateau inside Philadelphia's Fairmount Park.
