Cross-Country Teams To Compete In CACC Championships On Sunday

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician College men's and women's cross-country teams will compete in the 2013 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship meet on Sunday, October 27. The event will be hosted by Philadelphia University at Belmont Plateau, inside Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. The men's 8,000-meter race is slated for 10 a.m., with the women's 5,000-meter competition scheduled for 11 a.m.

The Felician men finished second in 2012 after winning the conference championship the previous two seasons. They are seeking the 10th league crown in program history. The Golden Falcon women will be looking to improve upon last year's 11th-place result. Both teams are led by 12th-year head coach John Brennan.

The top 15 individual finishers in each race will be named All-CACC. Directions to Belmont Plateau are available at http://www.devilsathletics.com/information/directions/Campus_Venues (scroll down to final entry).

The Felician men have been led by true freshman Mike Secreti (Paramus, N.J./Paramus), a five-time CACC Rookie of the Week. Secreti has been the Golden Falcons' frontrunner in four of the five regular-season races. He has teamed with much-improved sophomore Tom Cooke (Clarksboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) and junior Keenan Huggins-Filozof (Farmingdale, N.J./Freehold Township) to form a formidable top three. Huggins-Filozof was all-CACC in 2011 before suffering through an injury-plagued sophomore campaign.

Felician's fate will likely be determined by how high their No. 4 and No. 5 men can score. The Golden Falcons will need another big race from two-time all-conference performer Stephen Omari (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East), but junior Nick Mardirosian (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) and sophomore Aiden Lynch (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) are also capable of grabbing the No. 4 slot. Walk-on Connor Gillespie (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Hasbrouck Heights) rounds out the line-up.

Wilmington (Del.) University is the defending champion and is ranked No. 4 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region coaches' poll.

Like their male counterparts, the Felician women enter the championship without a senior and with a freshman at the top of the pack. Sabrina Roldan (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) is a two-time CACC Rookie of the Week and has already set the Felician record for 5,000 meters. Junior Andrea Sarracino (Wood-Ridge, N.J./St. Mary) and freshman Katie Rohsler (Fredon, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) have gone back and forth in the team's No. 2 slot. The Golden Falcons' most experienced competitors, juniors Sylvia Bialy (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) and Lianne Rossi (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) round out the top five.

Also in the Felician line-up will be sophomore Michelle Camacho (Moonachie, N.J./Wood-Ridge) and junior Samantha Kamphausen (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton). The host Rams have won the last five CACC women's titles and are currently ranked seventh regionally.
