NASHUA, N.H. -- The Felician College women's cross-country team completed its 2012 season on Sunday afternoon by competing in the 2012 NCAA Division II East Regional Championship, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Lowell at Mines Falls Park. Felician matched its 2011 performance by placing 27th in the team standings.
Sophomore Lianne Rossi (Nutley, N.J.) made her strongest challenge of the season to classmate Sylvia Bialy (Lodi, N.J.) as the Golden Falcons' frontrunner. The duo crossed the finish line within a fraction of a second of each other. Bialy traversed the 6,000 meter course in 26 minutes, 50.0 seconds and placed 151st out of 192 entrants, while Rosi was 152nd in 26:50.3.
Also in the Felician line-up were sophomore Andrea Sarracino (Wood-Ridge, N.J.) (173rd, 28:00), freshman Michelle Camacho (Moonachie, N.J.) (182nd, 29:08), and sophomore Samantha Kamphausen (East Rutherford, N.J.) (185th, 30:04).
Felician scored 813 points, 48 better than 28th place Goldey-Beacom College, and 36 back of Queens (N.Y.) College for 26th.
American International College senior Jeptui Cherutich earned Regional Runner of the Year honors, winning the race by five seconds with a time of 21:12. Team champion Stonehill College (67 points), runner-up Adelphi University (97) and the College of Saint Rose (161) earned the region's three automatic team bids into the NCAA D-II National Championship meet.
