RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician College women's and men's cross-country teams will compete in the 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship meet on Sunday, October 21. The event will be hosted by Philadelphia University at Belmont Plateau, inside Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. The women's 5,000-meter race is slated for 10 a.m., and will be followed by the men's 5-mile competition at 10:45.
The Felician women will be looking to improve upon the eighth-place result they have posted in each of the last two seasons. The Golden Falcon men are the two-time defending CACC champions, and seek the 10th conference crown in program history. Both teams are led by 11th-year head coach John Brennan.
The youthful Felician women's team returns only two runners from 2011 and has just one competitor older than a sophomore. Sophomore Sylvia Bialy (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) has been the Golden Falcons' top runner, going as low as 21 minutes, 16 seconds, for a 5K race. Classmates Andrea Sarracino (Wood-Ridge, N.J./St. Mary) and Lianne Rossi (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) have battled for the No. 2 spot in the pack
Also in the Felician line-up will be freshman Michelle Camacho (Moonachie, N.J./Wood-Ridge), sophomore Samantha Kamphausen (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton) and senior Joanna Chacon (Elmwood Park, N.J./Elmwood Park). The host Rams have won the last four CACC women's titles.
Sunday's men's race features another showdown between the last two CACC Runners of the Year. Felician senior Rob Albano (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Township), the 2011 winner, will look to fend off, among others, 2010 individual champion Bill Steele of Wilmington (Del.) University. Steele was second to Albano last year, with current Golden Falcon senior Taylor Trumbetti (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) finishing third. Albano won all four races he entered in the 2012 regular season.
Tim Kicha (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) completes the trio of returning all-conference seniors for the Golden Falcons. Sophomores Stephen Omari (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East), another 2011 all-CACC honoree, and Joe Eagan (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddon Township) will be part of the Felician pack, along with true freshmen Tom Cooke (Clarksboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) and Aiden Lynch (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee).
Felician, the No.8-ranked team in the NCAA Division-II East Region, is expecting a stiff challenge from No. 7-ranked Wilmington for the team title. Philadelphia, the No. 9 team in the region, should also be in contention.
The top 15 individual finishers in each race will be named All-CACC.
