LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Felician College women's soccer team snapped a three-match winless streak and solidified its hold on second place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a 1-0 league victory over visiting Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday evening at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
In a match with few solid scoring opportunities for either side, Felician (8-4-1, 7-2) took advantage of the first one it saw. Fewer than five minutes into the action, Golden Falcon junior JoJo Pisani (Wyckoff, NJ/Hasbrouck Heights) collected a pass from teammate Juliet Numfor (Hillsborough, NJ/Stanstead College) at the top of the 18-yard box. Pisani turned and nailed a shot into the upper right corner of the net in the game's first shot attempt for either team.
From there, midfield play dominated the evening, with the teams combining for only 15 shots (8-7 Felician). The Felician defense took turns marking Lightning freshman sensation Alexandra Smith (Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Memorial), the CACC's second-leading scorer, holding her to one shot. Golden Falcon junior goalkeeper Allie Couzo (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) backed the defensive effort with three saves for her third shutout of the season.
Senior Kristin Degenhardt (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) stopped three shots for GBC (5-6, 4-5). Felician has three CACC contests remaining.
