RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician University women's basketball program, joining a national initiative, will sponsor "Play4Kay" Day during the Golden Falcons' home game on Saturday, February 17, against Chestnut Hill College.
The Play4Kay program, named for longtime North Carolina State University women's basketball coach Kay Yow, exists to raise awareness and funds for research of women's cancers. Yow twice successfully battled breast cancer before succumbing to the disease in January 2009. A year earlier, she had joined forces with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and The V Foundation for Cancer Research to form the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
On Felician's Play4Kay Day, the women's basketball team will sponsor a bake sale in the gymnasium lobby. All profits from the concession will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Team members will wear pink T-shirts during pre-game warmups, and anyone attending the games is also encouraged to wear pink, the color of the official breast cancer ribbon.
Saturday's game starts at 1 p.m. A men's contest between the Griffins and Golden Falcons will follow at 3:30 p.m. Admission is free for members of the Felician community with proper identification. Tickets are otherwise $5 for adults and $2 for students, children and senior citizens. One ticket is good for both games.
Those who cannot attend the games, but wish to help the Golden Falcons support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, can make an online donation. Visit https://support.kayyow.com/team/156396 to donate and to track the team's progress.
