CALDWELL, N.J. – Caldwell University extended a seven-point halftime lead to as many as 25 in the third quarter of its 73-51 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball victory over visiting Felician University on Saturday afternoon at the George R. Newman Center.
Felician senior guard Eliana Scanlon (New York, N.Y.) led all players on the day with 16 points. She added four assists and three steals. Sophomore guard Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, N.Y.) paced four double-figure scorers for Caldwell (6-4, 4-1 CACC) with 14 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots.
Felician (1-8, 1-3) recovered from an early 6-0 deficit to depart the first period tied, 17-17. The Golden Falcons were held to three points in the final eight minutes of quarter No. 2, however, and went into the locker room for halftime trailing, 32-25.
Felician's Shyla Osmond (New Haven, Conn.) canned a jump shot for the first score of the second half. However, the Cougars tallied the game's next nine points for a 41-27 edge with 6:36 left in the third period. Following a Golden Falcon bucket, the Cougars embarked on a 17-4 run, capped by a Drogsler three-point field goal, for their largest lead of the day, 58-33, at the 0:52 mark of the quarter, before Remi Iwelu (Brooklyn, N.Y.) converted a jumper on Felician's next possession. Caldwell outscored the Golden Falcons, 26-10, for the duration of the period.
Felician never came closer than a 15-point deficit in the final period.
Iwelu totaled a season-high 10 points with five rebounds and fellow freshman Devin Fitzgibbons (Winslow, Maine) netted a season-high seven points for Felician. Caldwell received 14 points and six rebounds from sophomore Karlie O'Driscoll (Sharon, Mass.) (7-11 FG).
