RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Five high-school seniors have signed national letters of intent to continue their women's basketball careers at Felician College, Felician head coach Steve Fagan announced today.
"We feel we've brought in a class of hard workers with good coachability," said Fagan, entering his eighth year with the Golden Falcons. "These five players will enhance the everyday ethic that is needed in our program."
Felician is a member of NCAA Division II and plays in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). The Golden Falcons (6-20, 5-14 CACC) finished fifth in the CACC North Division standings in 2014-15. See below for details on their five signees for the Class of 2019.
Devin Fitzgibbons (Winslow, Maine/Winslow) was a three-time all Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference (KVAC) selection for Winslow (Maine) High. The 5-foot-4 guard was also a first-team all-KVAC honoree in soccer. She intends to major in psychology and/or criminal justice at Felician. "Devin is a hard-nosed combination guard who is an in-your-face defender," Fagan said. "She has the ability to light it up from the outside."
Remi Iwelu (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Laughlin), a 5-foot-10 post player, helped Bishop Laughlin Memorial High to a 19-7 record in 2014-15. An honor roll student, she also participated in swimming and softball for the Lions. She played basketball for the New Heights NYC summer program. Iwelu expects to enroll in the pre-physical therapy program in the biology department. "Remi will bring us a physical post presence," Fagan said. "She'll be able to make an impact on both side of the glass."
Hannah Johnson (Jersey City, N.J./St. Dominic Academy) is a 5-foot-7 guard who was a 1,000-point scorer for St. Dominic Academy. Johnson was the Blue Devils' team MVP as a junior, and defensive player of the year as a senior. She also was a member of SDA's track & field team. Johnson hopes to major in teacher education. "Hannah is a highly-skilled point guard who is extremely fast," Fagan said. "She loves to get after opponents on the defensive end."
Kristin Smith (Hainesport, N.J./Rancocas Valley) was a South Jersey All-Star for Rancocas Valley Regional of Mount Holly, helping the Red Devils to a Group IV state title. The 5-foot-11 center and National Honor Society member played her AAU ball for Philly Triple threat. Smith will study psychology at Felician. "Kristin was the glue of her high school team," Fagan said. "She is a great leader who can be a presence in the post but still provide strong perimeter skills like passing and movement."
Kameron Stone (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) was a second-team all-Bronx selection for Cardinal Spellman High and helped the Pilots to a pair of archdiocesan championships. She was a teammate of current Golden Falcon Danelle Gibson at Spellman and of Iwelu's for New Heights NYC. The 5-foot-10 forward intends to major in accounting. "Kameron is a versatile forward who can extend a defense," Fagan said. "On the defensive end, she can guard multiple positions."
