RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Philadelphia University women's basketball team used an 18-0 run spanning halftime to take control of its 66-46 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over host Felician College on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium. Philadelphia (5-1, 2-1 CACC) is ranked No. 4 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region Media Poll.
The Rams received double-doubles from senior guard Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) (11 points, 10 rebounds) and junior forward Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) (10 points, 12 rebounds). Junior guard Eliana Scanlon (New York, N.Y./Oak Hill Academy [Va.]) topped Felician (1-7, 0-4) with 18 points, six assists and three steals.
Scanlon's three-point field goal with three minutes, 19 seconds, left in the first half knotted the score at 20-20. But Philadelphia tallied the final eight points of the half, capped by Rachel Day's (Horsham, Pa./Archbishop Wood) three on its final possession. The Rams then outscored Felician, 10-0, in the first 3:39 of period two.
Philadelphia led by as many as 21 points with 11:48 to play in the contest. Scanlon scored eight times in a 12-1 Felician run that brought the hosts to within 51-41 at the 6:39 mark, but the Golden Falcons came up with only one field goal for the rest of the day.
Freshman guard Danelle Gibson (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) tallied 15 points for Felician, including 10 of her team's 20 first half scores. Teammate Ashley Morris (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) turned in 12 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots.
Junior forward Alex Heck (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) led the Rams with 13 points. Senior guard Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) had 12 points and four assists.
