Women's Basketball Draws Holy Family In CACC First Round

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – After a year's absence, the Felician College women's basketball team is returning to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament. Felician, the No. 3 seed out of the CACC North Division, will travel to the CACC South's No. 2 seed, Holy Family University, in a first-round playoff game on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at the Campus Center Gymnasium on the Holy Family campus.

Felician (12-14, 10-9 CACC) won its final two games to tie Dominican (N.Y.) College for third place in the CACC North, and captured the division's No. 3 seed via tiebreaker. Both teams finished one game ahead of fifth-place Post University. The Golden Falcons are making their third conference tournament appearance in the last four years, and the ninth in team history. They are seeking their first CACC title.

Felician is led by the frontcourt tandem of senior small forward Trina Plummer (West Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) and junior power forward Ashley Morris (West Orange, N.J./West Orange). Plummer, the Golden Falcons' all-time leading rebounder, ranks seventh in the CACC this season with 17.1 points per game and ninth with 1.7 steals. Morris averages 12.2 points and team highs of 8.5 rebounds (11th in the CACC) and 1.2 blocks (7th). Senior point guard Gisell Peguero (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) is third in the conference with 4.5 assists per game while averaging 6.6 points. The Golden Falcons are 5-7 in non-neutral road games.

Holy Family (17-9, 15-4), from northeast Philadelphia, is the two-time defending CACC champion, and has won eight league crowns overall. It enters this year's playoffs having taken five of its last six games. Sophomore guard Erin Fenningham (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil Academy) tops HFU with 11.3 points and 3.1 assists per contest, while senior center Carolyne Heston (Feasterville, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) averages 11.2 points and 9.7 rebounds. The Tigers are second only to Felician in the CACC in field-goal percentage defense. HFU is 8-4 at home.

The Tigers won this year's regular-season meeting between the teams, 67-56, on Jan. 4 in Philadelphia.
