Loss At Dominican Hurts Felician's Playoff Chances

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Felician College women's basketball team lost the opportunity to fully control its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference playoff fate with an 85-70 league loss to host Dominican (N.Y.) College on Tuesday evening on the Hennessy Center's Coach Baxter Court.

The setback dropped Felician (10-14, 8-9 CACC) into fifth place in the CACC North Division with two games remaining. The Golden Falcons trail third-place Post University by 1 ½ games and fourth-place Dominican by a half-game. The Division's top four schools at season's end will advance to the conference tournament.

Felician never led on Tuesday, falling behind, 16-4, after seven minutes, 38 seconds, of action. The Golden Falcons closed their deficit to three points with 6:23 remaining in the period, only to see Dominican close the half on a 17-5 run for a 41-26 halftime advantage.

The Chargers (10-13, 8-8) took their largest lead, 56-32, with 16:07 to play in the contest. Felician never came closer than 14 points of their hosts for the duration of the night.

Junior guard Lashonda Hathorne (Queens, N.Y.) led four Charger double-figure scorers with 18 points. Dominican freshman Shannon McGill (Staten Island, N.Y.) came off the bench to drain five three-point field goals and tally 15 points in 13 minutes, and teammate K.C. Jentzen (Pearl River, N.Y.) recorded 13 points, 13 rebounds and five assists.

Ashley Morris (West Orange, N.J.) topped Felician with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Trina Plummer (West Babylon, N.Y.) posted 19 points and six rebounds for the visitors. The Golden Falcons blocked nine shots on the evening, including a career-high four by Sierra McDuffie (Paterson, N.J.).

The game featured 42 personal fouls and 66 free-throw attempts.
