WATERBURY, Conn. – Senior forward Trina Plummer (West Babylon, N.Y.) recorded 24 points, 14 rebounds and four steals to lead Felician College to a 93-66 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball victory over host Post University on Wednesday evening at the Drubner Center. Felician (8-9, 6-4 CACC) has won five consecutive games and seven of its last eight.
With the victory, Felician squeezed into third place in the CACC North Division, ½ game ahead of Post (5-10, 5-4). The game moved the Golden Falcons past the midpoint of their league schedule; nine conference contests remain.
On Wednesday, the Golden Falcons gained separation from Post just prior to the halfway point of the opening period. Ahead, 12-10, with 15:11 left in the half, Felician embarked on a 15-0 run over the next three minutes of game time. Five different Golden Falcons scored in the spurt, including six points by Plummer. The visitors went ahead by 20 with 9:11 to play, and took a 51-34 advantage into halftime.
In period two, Post came as close as 61-50 at the 10:55 mark on a lay-up by senior swing player Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.). But with 5:07 to play, Felician was back on top by 20, and a game-ending 10-0 Golden Falcon run provided the final margin.
Plummer shot 8 for 13 from the field and 8 of 9 at the foul line, topping four Felician double-figure scorers. Junior Ashley Morris (West Orange, N.J.) scored 15 points with seven rebounds, and senior point guard Gisell Peguero (Brooklyn, N.Y.) totaled six assists and four steals to go with 14 points.
Felician shot a season-best 48-percent from the floor. The Golden Falcons produced their highest offensive output in more than four years – since a 95-61 win at Philadelphia University on Jan. 9, 2010. The school record is 99 points.
The Eagles also saw four players score in double figures, led by 14 points from freshman guard Liz Falcigno (Middletown, Conn.). Latham, who last week became Post's all-time leading scorer, finished with 13, and senior forward Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) amassed 11 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Senior Jac'Quel Saunders (Trenton, N.J.) turned in 13 points and six assists for Felician.
The Golden Falcons play their next three games at home, beginning with a 1 p.m. tilt against Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday.
