RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College went 7 for 8 at the free-throw line in the final two minutes to secure its 70-65 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball victory over visiting Dominican (N.Y.) College on Saturday evening at Job Gymnasium. Felician (7-9, 5-4 CACC) has won four consecutive games and six of its last seven.
Felician junior forward Ashley Morris (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) recorded 18 points, six rebounds, and three assists, all team highs. Senior K.C. Jentzen (Pearl River, N.Y./Nanuet) topped Dominican (4-11, 2-6) with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Consecutive lay-ups by Que Lyles (Bronx, N.Y./Banana Kelly) capped a 6-0 run that gave the Golden Falcons the lead for good, 57-51, with five minutes, 37 seconds, to play in regulation. Still ahead by five at the 3:00 mark, Felician never made another field goal. Instead, Lyles came up with a steal with her team up by three and 2:09 to play, and Trina Plummer (West Bablyon, N.Y./North Babylon), Gisell Peguero (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) and Morris each drained a pair of foul shots down the stretch to help the hosts thwart a Dominican comeback.
The game featured 10 ties and 11 lead changes, and the teams were never separated by more than six points. Felician led, 26-25, at halftime.
Plummer netted 12 points and Lyles scored nine for the Golden Falcons. Jac'Quel Saunders (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic) tallied eight points and six assists. Dominican received 13 points and five assists from junior guard Lashonda Hathorne (Queens, N.Y./St. John's Prep) and freshman Lisa Bouffard (Wallkill, N.Y./Wallkill) totaled 12 points and seven rebounds.
