BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – A 17-4 run in the closing minutes allowed the Molloy College women's basketball team to overtake Felician College and earn a 69-67 non-conference victory over the Golden Falcons on Sunday afternoon at Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium. The game tipped off Day 2 of the University of Bridgeport Classic.
Felician (0-2) led by as many as 13 points in the opening period and 36-28 at halftime. Still ahead by seven following an Ashley Morris (East Orange, N.J.) lay-up with four minutes, 23 seconds left in regulation, the Golden Falcons then went cold. They were 2 for 8 from the field and committed two turnovers during Molloy's deciding run
A three-point field goal by Lion senior Kelly Guerriero (Floral Park, N.Y.) at the 3:00 mark put her team again for good, 59-58. Ahead 63-62 with 1:36 to play, Molloy received five consecutive points from Sabrina Padro (Bronx, N.Y.) to secure the victory.
Guerriero canned six three-pointers en route to a 20-point day, and Padro added 17 points and six assists for Molloy (2-0). Morris topped three double-figure scorers for the Golden Falcons with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Felician received 13 points from senior forward Trina Plummer (West Babylon, N.Y.) while classmate Que Lyles (Bronx, N.Y.) picked up 12 points and 12 rebounds. Golden Falcon junior guard Eliana Scanlon (New York, N.Y.) contributed nine points, six rebounds and six assists.
Felician begins Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play when it travels to Nyack College on Wednesday.
