Felician To "Play 4 Kay" On Feb. 12

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician College department of athletics, joining a national initiative, will sponsor "Play 4 Kay" Night during the Golden Falcons' home women's and men's basketball games on Tuesday, February 12, against Dominican (N.Y.) College.

The Play 4 Kay program, named for longtime North Carolina State University women's basketball coach Kay Yow, exists to raise awareness and funds for research of women's cancers. Yow twice successfully battled breast cancer before succumbing to the disease in January 2009. A year earlier, she had joined forces with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and The V Foundation for Cancer Research to form the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

On Felician's Play 4 Kay Night, the Golden Falcon basketball teams will wear pink T-shirts during pre-game warm-ups, and the game staff will be outfitted in pink. Anyone attending the games is also encouraged to wear pink, the color of the official breast cancer ribbon.

The women's game starts at 6 p.m. on February 12, with the men's contest between the Golden Falcons and Chargers to follow at approximately 8 p.m. Admission is free for members of the Felician community with proper identification. Tickets are otherwise $5 for adults and $2 for students, children and senior citizens. One ticket is good for both games.

Throughout the evening, members of the Felician Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be soliciting donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The athletics department will also give all of the night's gate receipts to the Fund. Those who cannot attend the games but wish to help the Golden Falcons support the cause can make an online donation. Visit www.play4kay.org/FelicianBasketball to donate and to track the team's progress.

The Play 4 Kay (formerly WBCA Pink Zone) initiative is a global, unified effort to assist in raising awareness for women's cancers on the basketball court, across campuses, in communities, and beyond. More information is available at www.play4kay.org.

Felician has combined to raise more than $2,300 during similar events over the last five years.

Felician plays its home basketball games at Job Gymnasium on its Rutherford Campus. More information is available by contacting the department of athletics at (201) 559-3333 or MentoneM@felician.edu
