ORANGEBURG, N.Y. -- Despite the first career double-double for junior guard Jac'Quel Saunders (Trenton, N.J.), the Felician College women's basketball team was defeated, 72-47, by host Dominican (N.Y.) College on Monday night on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Saunders scored 21 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds, but she was unable to jump-start the rest of the Felician offense. The Golden Falcons (6-12, 6-5 CACC) shot 28 percent from the field (19 percent in the second half) and committed 27 turnovers.
Dominican, which never trailed, led by as many as 13 points in the opening period before taking a 36-27 edge into halftime. Both teams got off to a slow start offensively in the second half, but the Chargers still led, 42-32, with 15 minutes, six seconds, left in regulation before putting the game away with a 20-5 run over the next 7 1/2 minutes of game action. Felician never got closer than a 19-point deficit the rest of the way.
Junior K.C. Jentzen (Pearl River, N.Y) topped Dominican (10-6, 7-2) with 18 points. Bianca Harris (Teaneck, N.J.) produced 15 points, nine rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocks, and freshman Deja Gabbidon (Teaneck, N.J.) added 15 points in 22 minutes off the bench.
Ashley Morris (West Orange, N.J.) turned in six points and five rebounds for Felician. Trina Plummer (West Bablyon, N.Y.) added eight rebounds and four steals, as the visitors wasted a 49-34 rebounding advantage.
The Chargers are in first place in the CACC North Division.
