RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Bloomfield College women's basketball team never trailed in earning an 81-53 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over host Felician College on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium. Bloomfield (8-8, 5-4 CACC) canned 10 three-point field goals in the contest.
A 15-2 Deacon run broke open a close game in the early going to give the visitors a 31-16 advantage with seven minutes, 15 seconds, remaining in the opening period. Bloomfield carried that same 15-point advantage into halftime, 44-29. After Felician junior Trina Plummer (West Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) opened the second-half scoring with a putback, the Deacons reeled off the next 13 points to take full control at 57-31with 16:20 to play.
Bloomfield led by as many as 36 points at the 5:38 mark. The Golden Falcons (5-11, 5-4) then scored the game's last eight points for the final margin.
Deacon junior Ivettlis Castro (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) came off the bench to lead all scorers with 22 points in 19 minutes. Castro shot 6 for 8 from three-point range and netted 11 points in each period. Classmate Iliriana Lulguraj (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) was 4 of 7 from distance and added 15 points.
Bloomfield committed just nine turnovers and forced 27 miscues from the Golden Falcons. The Deacons owned a 25-2 advantage in points off turnovers.
Junior guard Jac'Quel Saunders (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic) topped Felician with 19 points and four assists. Plummer finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, and Mary Chisholm (West Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) picked up eight points and four rebounds.
The Golden Falcons have lost 4 of 5. They are in the midst of a stretch of four consecutive contests against CACC North Division opponents. Felician travels to Nyack College on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
