Second-Half Struggles Costly In Loss At Caldwell

CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College women's basketball team outscored Felician College, 46-15, in the second half to earn a 78-47 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball victory over the visiting Golden Falcons on Saturday afternoon at the Newman Center.

Felician (3-7, 3-2 CACC) recovered from a 28-21 deficit with 15 minutes gone by to tie the score at 32-32 at halftime. Caldwell inched ahead, 45-39, with 15:56 to play, then put the game away with a 26-2 run over the next 10-plus minutes of game action. Felician shot 17 percent from the field in the second half and 29 percent for the day.

Senior guard Torey Jones (Providence, R.I.) topped four double-figure scorers for the Cougars (4-10, 2-3) with 18 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. By shooting 4 for 6 from three-point range, she broke the Caldwell career record for threes, currently with 204.

Trina Plummer (West Bablyon, N.Y.) led Felician with 10 points. Freshman forward Sierra McDuffie (Paterson, N.J.) scored nine, all in the first half, and Jac'Quel Saunders (Trenton, N.J.) added eight. Sophomore Alex Salaycik (Staten Island, N.Y.) posted a season-high six points in nine minutes off the bench.

Caldwell, which shot 49 percent for the game, won the rebounding battle, 47-33. Junior Marielle Duryea (Middle Village, N.Y.) made 5 of 7 shots and scored 12 points in a reserve role.
