BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Felician College led, 32-22, at halftime en route to a 60-53 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball victory over host Bloomfield College on Tuesday evening at BC Gymnasium. Felician junior guard Jac'Quel Saunders (Trenton, N.J.) led all scorers on the night with 14 points.
The Golden Falcons (2-6, 2-1 CACC) held Bloomfield to 28-percent shooting from the floor, their best defensive performance of the season. Felician also forced 21 Deacon turnovers, allowing it to survive 27 of its own miscues.
Felician, which never trailed, scored the first seven points of the contest. It took nearly six minutes for Bloomfield to record a field goal, and the Golden Falcons assumed their largest lead of the game, 20-9, on a three-point field goal by Shakeema Green (New York, N.Y.) with almost 10 minutes gone by. A Green free throw made the score 32-22 in favor of Felician with 2:01 to play in the opening period, and then the rest of the half saw the teams go scoreless.
The Deacons (3-2, 2-1) got close on two occasions in the second half but were never able to tie the score. Bloomfield received five consecutive points from Nahja Carter (Neptune, N.J.) to pull within 34-30 at the 13:58 mark, but Felician sophomore Eliana Scanlon (New York, N.Y.) responded with the game's next five points. Later, a three-pointer by Iliriana Lulgjuraj (Bloomfield, N.J.) capped a 7-0 Deacon run which cut their deficit to 49-47 with 4:01 to play. Bloomfield then went 2 ½ minutes without a field goal, and the Golden Falcons went 5 for 6 at the foul line in the final minute to secure the victory.
Scanlon finished with 11 points (eight in the second half) and Mary Chisholm (West Babylon, N.Y.) produced nine points and eight rebounds for Felician. Carter led Bloomfield with 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals and teammate Ariel Wilson (Chesapeake, Va.) added 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
