RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Senior guard Shakeema Green (New York, N.Y./Murry Bergtraum) came off the bench to record a career-high 14 points and six rebounds, but she and the Felician College women's basketball team were defeated, 78-70, by visiting Philadelphia University on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium.
Philadelphia (4-2, 2-0 CACC) was both efficient and opportunistic on offense. The Rams recorded 20 assists on 24 field goals, and committed only 13 turnovers. They also converted 22 Felician turnovers into 23 points.
After taking a 6-4 lead just more than five minutes into the contest, Philadelphia never trailed again. The Rams led by as many as 16 points in the first half, and 42-28 at halftime. After intermission, the Felician deficit remained in double figures until there was 2:39 left to play, when two Jac'Quel Saunders (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) free throws made it 69-60. Felician trailed by eight with the ball with just under a minute on the clock, but a three-point attempt rimmed out, and the Rams secured the victory at the foul line.
Senior Kristen Blye (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) led five double-figure scorers for the Rams with 23 points (9-14 FG, 5-7 FT) and seven rebounds. Classmate Taylor Peltzer (Holland, Pa./Archbishop Wood) scored 14 points with seven boards.
Junior forward Trina Plummer (West Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) posted 12 points and a season-high 14 rebounds for the Golden Falcons (1-6, 1-1), who wasted a 49-33 rebounding advantage. Junior Gisell Peguero (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) and freshman Sierra McDuffie (Paterson, N.J./PCTI) added nine points apiece.
