PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Despite 17 points off the bench from junior guard Jac'Quel Saunders (Trenton, N.J.), the Felician College women's basketball team lost its non-conference game, 62-54, to host Pace University on Saturday afternoon at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
Felician (0-3) was held scoreless for a stretch of more than 11 minutes spanning halftime. After a lay-up by sophomore Eliana Scanlon (New York, N.Y.) gave the Golden Falcons a 21-17 lead with eight minutes, 12 seconds, remaining in the first half, Pace scored the final 16 points of the period. The Setters began the second half with seven more points in a row for a 40-21 lead until a putback by Felician's Ashley Morris (West Orange, N.J.) broke the skid with 16:58 to play.
The visitors still trailed, 53-36, at the 6:59 mark, when they scored nine consecutive points in just 2 ½ minutes, capped by a Trina Plummer (West Babylon, N.Y) lay-in, to cut their deficit to eight. Minutes later, Saunders scored to make it a 55-49 game with 2:44 remaining. But the Setters opened back up to a 10-point edge at the 1:24 mark and sealed the victory at the foul line.
Saunders, who shot 6 for 9 from the floor, was the only Felician scorer in double figures. Morris (4-6 FG) finished with nine points and Scanlon totaled eight.
