Women's Basketball Silent Late In Loss To New Haven

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- After erasing a 10-point second-half deficit, the Felician College women's basketball team was held scoreless for the final two minutes, 57 seconds, of its 65-59 non-conference loss to the University of New Haven on Sunday afternoon at Butova Gymnasium. The game concluded the two-day American International College Tip-Off Classic.

A tightly-contested first-half saw New Haven (1-1) emerge with a 32-29 advantage. With Felician ahead, 41-39, and 14:22 to play, the Chargers embarked on a 14-2 run over the next six minutes to take their largest lead of the contest.

Sparked by two field-goals each from Gisell Peguero (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Jac'Quel Saunders (Trenton, N.J.), the Golden Falcons scored the game's next 10 points, knotting things at 53-53 at the 6:10 mark. Later, a three-point play by Saunders with 2:57 remaining put Felician head, 59-58.

But the New Haven defense clamped down, forcing four Golden Falcon turnovers down the stretch. The Chargers took the lead for good on an Ahn-Dao Tran three-point field goal with 1:57 to play, and after Saunders missed on a go-ahead three-point attempt in the closing seconds, New Haven secured the victory at the foul line.

Junior Keisha Jean-Louis (Somerville, Mass.) came off the bench to top Felician (0-2) with 12 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks. Saunders finished with 11 points and Peguero 10.

Bria Moore scored 16 points with eight rebounds and Tran added 15 points for New Haven.
