ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Dominican (N.Y.) College went 8 for 8 from the foul line in the final 38 seconds to preserve its 62-57 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball victory over visiting Felician College on Tuesday evening at the Hennessy Center. The game marked the regular-season finale for both schools.
Dominican (13-13, 12-7 CACC) earned a split of the season series with the Golden Falcons. The game was meaningless in the CACC playoff picture, with both teams having already qualified and locked into position. Felician (17-9, 14-5) had clinched the CACC North Division crown, while the Chargers could not move out of the North's No. 3 spot.
On Tuesday, Felician led for most of the game until a 19-4 second-half Dominican run turned an eight-point deficit into a 52-45 lead for the Chargers with 4:13 to play in regulation. The Golden Falcons scored the next six points and still trailed by one with 0:38 to play when Dominican went to work at the charity stripe.
Charger junior Lindsey Lopez (Elmwood Park, NJ) sank a pair, then made two more after her team's defensive stop. Felician missed again on the other end, and Marley Klunk (York, PA) canned two foul shots at 0:15. Felician got a basket, steal, and layup to cut to 60-57 with three ticks remaining, but Lopez made two more at the line to secure the victory.
Trina Plummer (West Bablyon, NY) led Felician with 17 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Jac'Quel Saunders (Trenton, NJ) scored 14 points, and Jessica Ford (Jersey City, NJ) added 10. Lopez went 11 for 11 at the foul line and topped all players with 20 points and five assists.
Felician opens CACC playoff action at home on Sat., Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. against the No. 4 seed from the CACC South Division.
