RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College built a 22-point lead midway through the second half, then held on for a 67-59 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball victory over visiting Bloomfield College on Tuesday evening at Job Gymnasium. Felician (10-7, 7-3 CACC) has won six of its last seven games.
The Golden Falcons received a game-high 21 points from sophomore forward Trina Plummer (West Babylon, NY/North Babylon), who added four steals. Teammate Destiny Barnette (Paterson, NJ/PCTI), the CACC's leading scorer, netted 18 points, while Felician junior Que Lyles (Bronx, NY/Banana Kelly) posted 11 points, 15 rebounds and five blocked shots.
The Golden Falcons outscored Bloomfield, 10-4, over the final five minutes of the first half to take a 31-20 lead into the locker room. Still ahead by 10 with 15:39 remaining, Felician embarked on a 13-1 run over the next six minutes to open its largest edge of the night, 51-29, at the 9:33 mark.
The Deacons quickly turned the tables, rattling off a 15-2 spurt of their own to pull within a nine-point deficit with 5:47 to play. But a pair of foul shots from Jac'Quel Saunders (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Catholic Academy) (8 points, 7 rebounds) helped the hosts right the ship, and Plummer followed with the next five Golden Falcon points as Bloomfield never got closer than a seven-point deficit.
Senior Vanessa Lamison (Laurel, MD/Frederick Douglas) led the Deacons (8-10, 6-5) with 14 points and seven steals. Bloomfield senior Emily Hall (Montclair, NJ) turned in 13 points and seven assists. Felician out-shot the visitors from the field, 43-32 percent.
Tuesday marked just the second victory for the Golden Falcons in their last 16 meetings with Bloomfield.
