LAKEWOOD, N.J. -- The Felician College women's basketball team, among the top five in the nation in field-goal percentage defense, held host Georgian Court University to 26-percent shooting in its 62-50 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over the Lions on Saturday afternoon at the GCU Wellness Center.
Senior guard Destiny Barnette (Paterson, NJ) led all scorers with 22 points for Felician (9-7, 6-3 CACC). Sophomore Jac'Quel Saunders (Trenton, NJ) turned in 11 points, and junior Que Lyles (Bronx, NY) registered seven points, nine rebounds and three blocks.
The Golden Falcons outscored Georgian Court, 9-3, over the final two minutes of the first half to take a 31-24 edge into halftime. Still ahead by five with 16:26 left in the game, Felician embarked on a 10-2 run, highlighted by six points from Barnette, to move ahead, 47-34, at the 12:07 mark. The Lions came back to within 50-43 with 6:25 remaining, but never pulled closer.
Tahira Matthews paced the Lions (2-15, 1-9) with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Felician survived a 30-percent shooting performance and 21 turnovers on offense.
