DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Felician College women's basketball team set a school single-game record for rebounding in its 87-66 non-conference victory over host Mercy College on Monday evening at Mercy Gymnasium. The Golden Falcons' entire starting frontcourt posted double-doubles as Felician (5-6) ran up a 73-41 advantage on the boards.
Senior Destiny Barnette (Paterson, NJ) led the Golden Falcons with 20 points. The visitors received 17 points and 10 rebounds from sophomore forward Trina Plummer (West Babylon, NY), while senior center Jessica Ford (Jersey City, NJ) amassed 13 points and 13 boards. Junior transfer Que Lyles (Bronx, NY) produced her first double-double at Felician with a season-high 13 points, 12 caroms, and three blocked shots.
Barnette and Ford scored six points each in a 20-2 late first-half Felician run that turned a one-point lead into a 42-23 Golden Falcon advantage with two minutes left in the opening period. The visitors led, 44-29, at halftime, and the Mavericks (0-9) never got closer than a 13-point deficit in the second half. Felician took its largest edge, 63-37, on a Barnette lay-up with 13:09 to play.
Felician's 37-17 gap in offensive rebounds led to a 28-8 bulge in second-chance points. The Golden Falcons survived a game-high 28-point night from Mercy senior Jasmine Williams (Stratford, CT). The game featured 26 blocked shots, including 16 by the hosts. Maverick sophomore Venesha Hunter (Paterson, NJ) topped all players with four blocks to go along with 10 points. Felician's 87 points and 10 blocks were team season highs.
Felician previous best rebounding night was 66 in an overtime victory over Philadelphia University on Jan. 8, 2011.
