Staten Island Guard Signs With Women's Basketball Program

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Recent high-school graduate Alex Salaycik (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) has signed an athletic financial aid agreement to continue her women's basketball career at Felician College, Golden Falcon head coach Steve Fagan announced today.

Salaycik, a 5-foot-9 guard, was a member of three consecutive New York City Catholic High School Athletic Association championship teams at Moore Catholic. Her 2010-11 squad earned final rankings of No. 5 in New York City from the New York Post and No. 13 in New York state from MaxPreps. She led the Mavericks in free-throw percentage in all four of her varsity seasons.

"Alex brings a work ethic and a desire to succeed which is tremendous," said Fagan, who is entering his fourth year at Felician. "Her ability to play multiple positions will allow her to flourish in our system. Coach Rich Postiglione runs an outstanding program; players from Moore Catholic are always prepared for college basketball."

Salaycik also participated in cross-country and track for the Mavericks, and her most recent AAU team is the South Jersey Blitz. She expects to major in accounting at Felician.

Felician is a member of NCAA Division II and plays in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The Golden Falcons recorded an 18-9 won-lost record in 2010-11, setting a school record for winning percentage, and earned the program's first CACC Tournament berth in five years.
