Softball Program Inks Warren County Catcher
RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Recent high-school graduate Kate Smith (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) has signed a national letter of intent to continue her softball career at Felician College, Felician head coach Lori Kwiatkowski announced today.
Smith attended North Hunterdon High of Annandale in 2011-12 after relocating with her family to Warren County from South Carolina last summer. The 5-foot-4 catcher/corner infielder spent her first three scholastic seasons at Ridge View High of Columbia, S.C., where she was a captain and a 4A All-Region performer as a junior.
Smith's most recent summer team is the Newtown (Pa.) ROCK 18U Showcase squad. She was heavily involved in student activities at both of her high schools, including membership in North Hunterdon's SADD and Student Council. She intends to major in early childhood and special education at Felician.
"We are very excited about the addition of Kate to our program," Kwiatkowski said. "She comes to us with a high level of playing experience. She is a hard-worker and we are anxious to see what she can add to our line-up next year. Kate is capable of hitting for power and should prove to make constant contact. She is strong behind the plate and can play the corners as well. We are looking forward to our 2013 softball campaign with high hopes for a very strong season."
Felician is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). The 2012 Golden Falcons (18-34, 13-13) tied for sixth place in the 14-team CACC and placed fourth in the conference tournament.
