Cal Baptist Slugs Its Way Past Felician Softball

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- The Felician College softball team fell victim to the NCAA eight-run rule in both ends of Tuesday afternoon's non-conference doubleheader, succumbing to host California Baptist University, 11-3 and 9-1, in two five-inning affairs at Funk Stadium. Felician freshman first-baseman Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, CA) hit her first collegiate home run in Game 1.

Felician (0-10) took a 2-0 lead in the day's opening game on a one-out, two-run homer to right-center field by sophomore Carissa Trujillo (Fresno, CA) in the top of the first inning. It was the Golden Falcons' first extra-base hit of the season, and ended a 30-inning scoring drought for the visitors.

Behind junior pitcher Kristen Tenwolde (Ramona, CA) (0-5), Felician held the lead until the bottom of the third inning, when Cal Baptist (18-3) exploded for seven runs on six hits, including two-run home runs by Sloan McHann (Modesto, CA) and Kailey Willingham (Lakewood, CA).

Clark led off the fourth inning with a solo round-tripper, but the Lancers came up with two runs each in the fourth and fifth, all unearned, off of reliever Macy Chase (Sacramento, CA) to end the game. Trujillo finished 2 for 2, but the Golden Falcons were outhit, 10-4. CBU's Emma Holden (San Carlos, CA) (9-2) struck out eight and walked one in a complete-game victory.

CBU hit three home runs in Game 2 and senior Tory Ferreira (Murrieta, CA) (9-1) pitched a two-hitter with no walks and four strikeouts. After the Lancers scored two unearned runs off of Tori Bradburn (Ridge, MD) (0-2) in the third inning, they erupted for another seven-run frame in the fourth.

Micki Keltos (Shelton, CT) drove in Natalie Quintanilla (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ) on a groundout in the fifth inning with the Felician run. Zharde Sellona (Aliso Viejo, CA) and Aimee Lopez (Riverbank, CA) had the hits for the Golden Falcons. Bradburn yielded four earned runs in 3 2/3 innings.
