IRVINE, Calif. -- The Felician College softball team began its 2012 campaign on Friday afternoon, losing both ends of a doubleheader to host Concordia (Calif.) University, 6-0, and 11-2 at Eagles Field. Sophomore Carissa Trujillo (Fresno, CA) and freshman Taylor Parker (Surrey, B.C.) had a hit in each game for Felician. Concordia (21-2) is the No.-8 ranked team in the preseason NAIA national poll.
The Eagles did their damage early in Game 1, scoring a run in the first inning and four more in the second. Meanwhile, Concordia junior right-hander Courtney Young (Palos, CA) tossed a shutout, allowing three hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
The Golden Falcons had multiple baserunners in three innings, with their best scoring opportunity coming in the first. With runners on second and third and one out, Parker lined into a double play. Jenna Jorgensen (Laguna Niguel, CA) homered and drove in a pair of runs for the Eagles. Felician pitcher Kristen Tenwolde (Ramona, CA) gave up three earned runs on six hits in a complete-game effort.
Felician trailed, 1-0, through three innings of the nightcap before Concordia exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth off of freshman hurler Macy Chase (Sacramento, CA). The Eagles scored a run in the fifth, then came up with four in the sixth off of the Felician bullpen to end the game.
Trailing 7-0, the Golden Falcons dented the scoreboard with two runs in the top of the sixth. After they loaded the bases with none out, Parker produced an RBI single and Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, CA) followed with a sacrifice fly.
Leadoff hitter Katie Carson (Mission Viejo, CA) had a double, home run and five RBI and Brieana Eckel (Mission Viejo, CA) also homered for Concordia. Pitcher Morgan Reiter (Fresno, CA) struck out eight Golden Falcons in a six-hitter.
