RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College senior James Vander Wiele (Pequannock, NJ/Pequannock Township) has been chosen as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Cross-Country Runner of the Week, the CACC announced on Monday. It marks the fifth consecutive week that a Felician runner has won or shared that award.
Vander Wiele's honor came after posting his second-best time of the season on Saturday at the Collegiate Track Conference Championship. At Liberty State Park in Jersey City, he was Felician's top finisher, placing 5th overall out of 148 entrants. He completed the 8,000-meter course in 26 minutes, 49 seconds.
Felician, ranked No. 7 regionally in NCAA Division II, finished fourth out of 14 teams in the CTC Championship. In their next action, the Golden Falcons look to defend their 2010 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference title at the 2011 league meet on Sunday in Philadelphia.
Vander Wiele earns the CACC Runner of the Week award for the second time in his career, and first time since winning the 2008 CACC Runner of the Year award. Teammate Rob Albano (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock Township) had won or shared the weekly award each of the last four weeks. Vander Wiele is a 2008 graduate of Pequannock Township High.
