EAST STROUDBURG, Pa. – East Stroudsburg University scored on a pair of headers in the first 20 minutes and held on for a 2-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over visiting Felician University on Friday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium. The match marked the 2017 season opener for both schools.

Freshman midfielder Leo Yang (Palisades Park, N.J.) scored his first career goal for Felician.

Both teams were credited with five first-period shot attempts, but the Warriors cashed in on a pair of early opportunities. A corner kick by Jo Panuccio (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) connected with senior Shaquille Stephenson (St. Ann, Jamaica), who headed the ball into the net with 11 minutes, 40 seconds gone by to open the scoring.

A header by ESU sophomore Marcus Torgersson (Gothenburg, Sweden) in the 20th minute allowed the hosts to enter halftime with a 2-0 edge.

The Warrior took four shots in the first 10 minutes of period two, but Felician flipped the momentum in the 60th minute. Yang accepted a lead pass from junior Maxi Ojeda (Yonkers, N.Y.) and put a low shot past the goalkeeper to halve his team's deficit.

The Golden Falcons owned second-half statistical advantages of 9-7 in shots and 7-3 in corner kicks, but could not equalize. East Stroudsburg junior goalkeeper Will Boerema (Buffalo, N.Y.) made two high-quality saves in the final 15 minutes, including stopping a Golden Faclon 1 v. 1 opportunity.

Boerema finished with four saves. John Burns (Saddle Brook, N.J.) stopped four shots for Felician.
