Felician Claims 11 Arthur Ashe Sports Scholars

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The periodical Diverse Issues In Higher Education has selected 11 Felician College student-athletes as 2014 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars. The award winners come the sports of men's and women's soccer, women's basketball, men's golf, and women's softball, and were announced in the Apr. 10 issue of the magazine.

Diverse Issues established the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars Program, named for the late tennis star, in 1992 to honor outstanding undergraduate students of diverse and foreign backgrounds. Each winner must be a non-freshman who competes in an intercollegiate sport, maintains a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20, and is active on his/her campus or in the community.

Felician earned 11 honorees for the second consecutive year. The school record of 12 was established in 2009.

The Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars are named annually, and Felician's 2014 honorees are listed below. The on-campus coordinator is Dr. Alfredo Castro, associate professor of chemistry and faculty athletics representative to the NCAA. This marks Felician's 12th year of participation in the program.
