RUTHERFORD, N.J. – First-year Felician College head men's soccer coach Roger Stephens announced today that he has named Erik Kotynski of Lyndhurst and Paul Reece of Montclair as assistant coaches.
Kotynski is a 2002 graduate of Felician, earning a BA in elementary education. A four-year member of the Golden Falcons, he was a midfield starter on the 2000 and 2001 Felician squads which each won Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and NAIA Regional championships. Following his collegiate career, he played two seasons in the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League.
Kotynski has previous collegiate coaching experience at New Jersey City University, serving as a men's assistant in 2008 and 2009. He is also a coach and trainer with the Northern Valley Soccer Club in Old Tappan, and remains an active player in the United States Adult Soccer Association.
"I am very excited to have Erik join our staff," Stephens said. "Not only did he have an outstanding career here as a player, but since graduating, he has put together a solid resume of experiences at both the club and college levels."
Reece will work primarily with the Golden Falcon goalkeepers. He was retained by Stephens after serving in a similar role in 2011 for former Felician head coach Simon Nee. An NSCAA staff goalkeeping coach, he is a former academy goalkeeping coach in his native England with Nottingham Forest FC and Derby County FC. For the past two years, he has trained the boys' keepers from ages U-10 to U-18 for Matchfit Chelsea FC. Reece was a 12-year professional keeper in England with more than 150 football league appearances.
"Paul's background as a professional keeper in England will greatly aid in the development and training of our goalkeepers," Stephens said. "Not to mention, there aren't many colleges that can boast of having a goalkeepers coach that has successfully completed the National Goalkeeper Coaching Course with U.S. Soccer."
Kotynski replaces Greg Patullo of South Amboy, who resigned after three seasons and will remain with the program as a volunteer assistant. Eric Moore of New York, N.Y., like Patullo a Felician alumnus, also returns as a volunteer assistant.
Felician is a member of NCAA Division II. The 2011 Golden Falcons made the program's first CACC semifinal appearance in six years. Felician kicks off the 2012 campaign at the College of Saint Rose Tournament on Aug. 31-Sept. 1 in Albany, N.Y. Stephens will commence his Golden Falcon career after 21 years as the head man at the County College of Morris.
