Loss At West Chester Completes Men's Soccer Regular Season
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Felician College freshman goalkeeper Anthony Tsouhnikas (Clifton, NJ) saved two second-half penalty kicks, but host West Chester University still scored four times in the period for a 5-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over the Golden Falcons amid a steady, cold rain Thursday night at John A. Farrell Stadium. Felician (9-9) was playing its final match of the regular season.
The teams went into halftime tied, 1-1, as a West Chester goal in the 18th minute was answered by Felician's Daniel Camargo (Vinhedo, Brazil) at 28:44. Adrian Sutcliffe (Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England) was credited with an assist on the Golden Falcon tally.
Momentum seemed to turn in the Golden Rams' favor after a Felician player was whistled for a red card in the fifth minute of the second half. Tsounikas stopped the penalty kick that resulted from the play, but Jeff Signora (Broomall, PA) broke the tie fewer than three minutes later.
In the 60th minute, the hosts struck again on an unassisted marker from sophomore Conor Malarney (West Chester, PA). WCU went on to run up a 15-8 shot advantage for the period and 22-12 for the game.
Kevin McCann (Kennett Square, PA) scored twice for West Chester (5-8-3) and teammate Roberto Silva (Kennett Square, PA) had a goal and an assist off the bench. Garrett Bleiler (Allentown, PA) made four saves in 66 minutes for the victory.
Tsouhnikas finished with six saves, and Camargo and Jose Campos (West Haven, CT) led Felician with four shots each. The Golden Falcons play first-round Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament action on Monday at 2 p.m. on the road, with their opponent to be determined on Friday.
