Men's Basketball Season Ends With Loss At Dominican
PHILADELPHIA – Felician College cut a 15-point halftime deficit to seven before succumbing to host Dominican (N.Y.) College, 83-59, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball action on Tuesday night at the Hennessy Center. Felician completes its 2011-12 season with records of 7-19 overall and 4-14 in CACC play.
Felician had trouble containing the inside-outside combination of Dominican juniors Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) and Cory Quimby (Otisville, NY). Porter, a 5-foot-6 guard, nailed nine three-point field goals (in 13 attempts) in scoring 34 points. Quimby, a 6-foot-6 center, shot 8 for 11 from the floor and posted 20 points and 13 rebounds.
Dominican (18-8, 11-7), which never trailed, jumped out to leads of 10-0 and 29-14 before taking a 43-28 advantage into the locker room. The Golden Falcons produced the first eight points of period two, including five by John Tello (Ridgefield Park, NJ), to pull within 43-36, but the Chargers then exploded for a 30-7 run over the next 7 ½ minutes for a 30-point lead. Porter or Quimby scored 26 of the 30 points in the decisive run.
Junior guard Anthony D. Green (Jersey City, NJ) topped Felician with 13 points. Classmate Anthony J. Green (Jersey City, NJ) (no relation) picked up 10 points and seven rebounds, and Tello finished with nine points. The Golden Falcons were outscored, 14-5, at the foul line.
The game marked the end of the collegiate careers of Felician seniors Jimmy Schmitt (Elmwood Park, NJ) (five points, two assists) and Tello.
