RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician College men's basketball program will join a national initiative by taking part in the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Awareness Weekend during its 3 p.m. home game against Chestnut Hill College on Saturday.
Suits and Sneakers Weekend is a collaborative effort of the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The coaching staffs of both Felician's women's and men's teams on Saturday will wear sneakers instead of dress shoes with their suits to demonstrate their support for the American Cancer Society and its vision of a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
The men's basketball team will also accept gate donations during Saturday's women-men doubleheader to benefit Coaches vs. Cancer. Participants in Coaches vs. Cancer have raised more than $70 million since 1993 to fight the disease. More information is available at coachesvscancer.org or at the organization's Facebook page, facebook.com/coachesvscancer.
Ticket prices for Saturday are $5 for adults and $2 for students and senior citizens. Members of the Felician community (faculty, staff, students, alumni) are admitted free with proper identification. One ticket provides admission for both the men's game and the women's game between Felician and Chestnut Hill that precedes it at 1 p.m.
By lacing up sneakers with their suits, college and high school basketball coaches nationwide will spotlight the fact that while cancer remains a major health concern, everyone can take steps daily to reduce their risk of the disease. For those who do not smoke, weight control, exercise and a healthy diet are the best ways to improve health and reduce cancer risk.
Felician plays its home basketball games at Job Gymnasium on its Rutherford campus. The women's program is also sponsoring "Take a Kid to the Game" Day on Saturday. More information is available by contacting the athletics department at (201) 559-3333 or email@example.com.
