RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College junior guard Antoine Obery (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark) converted back-to-back lay-ups in the closing seconds to seal the Golden Falcons' 76-71 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball victory over visiting Caldwell College before an energetic Job Gymnasium crowd on Tuesday night.
Felician (1-6, 1-2) recovered from a nine-point second-half deficit to lead, 70-60, with four minutes, 25 seconds, to play in regulation. However, sparked by senior Nik Otovic (Kraljevo, Serbia), who had seven points in an 11-2 run, Caldwell got back to within a one-point deficit at 0:48.
On Felician's next possession, Obery ran the shot clock down before getting to the rim and scoring with 15 ticks remaining. Caldwell pushed the ball up the floor, but Otovic's driving lay-up in traffic was blocked by Obery, and the rebound came to Felician's Tajric Boggs (Coram, NY/Longwood), who hit Obery in transition for a game-clinching basket at 0:03.
Senior John Tello (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) topped four Felician double-figure scorers with 16 points. Boggs finished with 14, and Obery scored 12 points with nine rebounds. David Williamson (Bronx, NY/Wings Academy) produced 10 points and seven boards for the winners.
Otovic led all scorers with 22 points. Caldwell (5-2, 2-1), which saw a three-game winning streak snapped, also received 13 points and seven rebounds from freshman guard Kevin Walker (Bayonne, NJ/St. Peter's Prep).
Both teams shot better than 51 percent from the floor in a first half that saw the Cougars emerge with a 45-40 advantage. Caldwell slipped to 32 percent shooting in period two, including 0 for 7 from three-point range. The game featured 11 ties, including eight in the opening stanza, and five lead changes.
